About Universal Studios
Universal Studios Resort, sometimes shortened to simply Universal Studios, is a theme park located inside of Orlando, Florida. The park is a joint venture of the Blackstone Group and NBC Universal. The park consists of two unique themed attractions. The main attraction is Universal Studios Florida, and the secondary attraction is Universal’s Islands of Adventure. In addition, the park houses the Universal CityWalk, and three five-star Loews Hotels. Universal Studios Orlando is the largest Universal Studios Park on the planet. In addition, the park is the second-largest resort located in Orlando, second only to the Walt Disney World located in Florida.
The park is located just north of Florida’s International Drive area, on a section of land that is fenced in by some of the busiest roads in Florida. Vineland Road lies to the north, Kirkman road to the east, Turkey Lake Road to the west, and Interstate 4 lies to the south of the park. The park is accessible directly from Exit 74B, off Interstate 4. The exit allows passing onto Hollywood Way or Universal Boulevard. Transportation to the park can be achieved through one of many LYNX buses.
The park’s main attraction opened on June 7, 1990. The park allows patrons to “Ride the Movies”. The main purpose of the park is to make patrons feel as though they are part of a movie set. The park achieves this feeling by using various rides and roller coasters inspired by popular Universal films. The park has six major theme areas. These areas are KidZone, World Expo, San Francisco, New York, Production Central, and Hollywood.
The Islands of Adventure Park opened its doors in May 23, 1999. Six unique “islands” make up the park, and each has its own unique theme. Patrons begin their journey inside of the Port of Entry, after which they are led through the islands. These islands are Seuss Landing, The Lost Continent, Jurassic Park, Toon Lagoon, and Marvel Super Hero Island. Seuss Landing is the newest attraction, and is themed based on the Harry Potter books and movies. The new island is scheduled to open in spring 2010.
Universal CityWalk contains a large AMC Universal Cineplex, clubs, shops, and numerous restaurants. In addition, the attraction houses Emeril’s, Hard Rock Live, Hard Rock Café, NASCAR Café, NBA City Café, and Margaritaville. The clubs inside of the CityWalk include Cigarz, Red Coconut, Bob Marley’s, Rising Star, Pat O’Brien’s, The Groove, and the Latin Quarter.
The park features three hotels. Among these are Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel, and Loews Royal Pacific Hotel. All of the hotels have been dubbed AAA Four Diamond hotels. The hotels are located extremely near the Universal theme parks. In addition, each hotel offers free transportation to the various areas of the park.
