The Romano’s Macaroni Grill restaurant chain was started by Philip J. Romano. The first Macaroni Grill opened in Dallas, Texas on April 19, 1988. The Chili’s restaurant chain purchased the Macaroni Grill concept in 1989. In 1991 Chili’s changed its corporate name to Brinker International, Inc. Golden Gate Capital purchased the Romano’s Macaroni Grill restaurants from Brinker in 2008. There are currently over 200 Macaroni Grill locations in the United States and other countries.

Romano’s Macaroni Grill specializes in casual Italian food. The restaurants are open for lunch and dinner. Menu items include pasta, pizza, grilled dishes, salads, soups and appetizers. There are menu items with no meat that will please vegetarians. The drink selection includes mixed drinks and wine. Tiramisu is one the of the dessert choices. Menu items for children are available. The menu has an option that allows customers to customize their pasta selections by choosing a specific type of pasta, a sauce and a seasoning.

A new Mediterranean Lunch Menu was introduced in January, 2010. This menu has new items which can be prepared and served more quickly than some previous menu items. Some of the items on this menu are sandwiches, soups and salads. The company is working on transforming its entire menu to an Italian Mediterranean Style. This transformation began in the spring of 2009 and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2010. These dishes will contain fewer calories. There will be new items on the dinner menu. Some items that are presently on the menu will remain but will be made differently.

Atmosphere

Romano’s Macaroni Grill has paper covering the tablecloths in the restaurants. Guests are provided with crayons for writing or drawing on the paper. Some locations have singing waiters.

Catering is available from Romano’s Macaroni Grill restaurants at selected locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Maryland, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Washington D.C. Curbside to go service is available at selected restaurants. Customers can order their food by phone. They can drive to the restaurant and the food will be brought out to their cars. Family style meals to go that serve from eight to ten people are offered at the restaurants.
