Kings Dominion Information
Kings Dominion is Virginia’s premier themed amusement park and a favorite summer outing for more than 35 years. Located in Doswell, Virginia, Kings Dominion is just 20 miles north of Richmond and 75 miles south of Washington, D.C.
Situated on over 400 acres, Kings Dominion has activities for everyone in the family. The 15 roller coasters (including the brand new Intimidator 305, the El Dorado, the Dominator, the Backlot Stunt Coaster, the Anaconda, The Grizzly, and the classic wooden coaster, the Rebel Yell) make Kings Dominion the envy of the East Coast. If you are not ready to pull Gs on the park’s roller coasters, then there are plenty of tamer options as well.
The carousel, bumper cars, Virginia Clipper, and Flying Eagles are popular with younger children, as well as the ever-popular Scooby-Doo and the Haunted Mansion ride There are several live musical shows available throughout the day and of course no day at King’s Dominion is complete without a trip to the top of the replica Eiffel Tower, which gives you a bird’s eye view of the entire park and the beautiful Virginia countryside as well.
On hot summer days, visitors can cool off the water-themed rides in the park, including the Shenandoah Lumber Company Log Flume and White Water Canyon. If that’s not enough there is a whole water park area, called WaterWorks which boasts a dozen wet activities such as pools, slides, flumes, and tubing for guests of all ages.
Kings Dominion opened in 1975 and has continually added rides and attractions to the park. The park was formerly owned by Paramount Park and is currently owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment Co.
For the budding engineers out there, Kings Dominion offers Education Days during the month of May, focusing on the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math that are involved in developing the rides and keeping the park up and running.
