History of the Great Wolf Lodge
By offering quality accommodations and family fun in one location, Great Wolf Lodge resorts have become a popular destination for vacationers. Each location features an indoor water park and a variety of suites and all-ages activities set in a North Woods-inspired atmosphere.
Great Wolf Lodge debuted in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., in 1997 with a 117-suite resort and a 20,000-square-foot indoor water park. The unique concept was so popular that after only two years, the site added 192 suites and doubled the size of its water park. Today, the resort boasts 437 suites and a 76,000-square-foot water park. Based on the success of the Wisconsin Dells location, Great Wolf Resorts opened a second location in Sandusky, Ohio, in 2001. The company also expanded its resort amenities, adding themed restaurants, arcades, spas and activities for the whole family. Today, Great Wolf Lodge has a total of 12 locations, 11 in the U.S. and one in Niagara Falls, Canada.
Great Wolf Lodge water parks feature slides for more adventurous guests and calm pools in which visitors can play water basketball or lounge with young children. Indoor water parks are always about 84 degrees and are open year round. Some resorts also have an outdoor water park open during warmer months.
Guests seeking more than water fun have a variety of options from which to choose. An adult spa provides facials, manicures and massages, and a childen’s spa offers services such as a Chocolate Covered Cherry Facial to youths age 4 to 12. Resorts also house an arcade, fitness center, restaurants, gift shops and other stores, children’s crafts and storytimes, a miniature golf course, and MagiQuest, a live-action adventure game for the whole family.
Standard, premium or themed suites vary in floor plan and amenities, but most are equipped with a coffee maker, television, mini refrigerator and microwave. Themed suites also have a special children’s bunk area nestled within the family suite. WolfDen Suites house children’s beds within a cave, KidKamp Suites have a tent, and KidCabin Suites have a North Woods-style cabin. The cave, tent and cabin also have a second TV on which children can watch movies or play video games.
